Cone penetration

Whether you are looking for a cone penetration service in Germany or anywhere else in Europe, thanks to our powerful cone penetration testing trucks, we can quickly be wherever you require us. Upon arrival we take up position, extend the penetrometer, and our mobile team is soon taking the measurements for your site investigation.

The technique of cone penetration testing in accordance with DIN EN ISO 22476-1 involves pushing a cone attached to a rod and equipped with measuring instruments into the soil at constant speed. We then measure the tip pressure and skin friction, and use the data to draw conclusions about the type of soil and its bulk density. We also determine other important parameters, such as pore water pressure and temperature, using special cone tips.

We can also correlatively derive geomechanical characteristics from these findings, such as the angle of friction φ‘, constrained modulus Es, and undrained shear strength cu. Cone penetration testing is a reliable and very economic measuring method for investigating geological conditions and soil-mechanical properties.

For examining soil with poor load capacities or when operating in poorly accessible areas, we employ tracked cone penetrometer vehicles. In areas with restricted working heights, such as cellars or inspection ways, we use a unit that can be disassembled. Cone penetration tests in embankments and railway areas are performed using the Boomer penetration platform, while in harbour areas we use the Shark penetration platform (a submersible, heave-free, aquatic riser kit), which allows us to perform cone penetration testing at considerable water depths.
